Home Away From Home Learning Centers

Our daycare center loves all of our kiddos!

Thanksgiving is just a few days away, and that means it’s the time of year to be especially thankful. Here at Home Away From Home, we think that thankfulness is an excellent value and a great way to show gratitude. At our daycare center, we try to be thankful when we share toys. We are thankful when we receive meals. We appreciate learning. That’s why we want to share some ideas for fostering thankfulness in today’s blog! Here are a few ways you can aid your kiddos in learning to practice thankfulness:

Share Your Thanks

On Thanksgiving Day, a common tradition is to list the things for which we are thankful. Go around the table and offer up a few things for which you’re thankful. Sharing your thanks with your loved ones expresses the gratitude you have for the gifts you receive in your life.

Make a Thank You Card

Make a thank you card with your child. It can be as simple as, “Thanks for being awesome, Grandma,” or it can express your child’s gratitude for getting a gift.

Get a Gift, Give a Gift

Giving a gift after receiving a gift is an excellent way to express thanks! For example, a new toy from a friend or classmate can be met with cookies. Practice giving as well as thankfulness!

Thanks in Numbers

Another great practice, as your kiddo’s birthday rolls around, is to have him or her give as many thanks as the years that they’ve aged. If you’re child is five, have them think up five things for which they are thankful; if they’re twelve, they shouldn’t have too much trouble thinking up twelve things for which they give thanks!
